Canned goods have no expiration date if stored properly. Giving away canned goods after two years is a huge waste of money. I regularly eat canned soups (containing meat) and vegetables that are 6-8 years past expiration.
I agree with your wife. However, Eden foods make high quality organic canned beans and vegetarian chili, etc. The beans are cooked with kombu. Also, no salt. I like their spaghetti sauce. I ordered from the company in 2020 and still have some. I also recommend Redhead brand sockeye Alaskan salmon. 12 cans for about $50. from Azure Standard.
In a really SHTF situation even in more rural areas & definitely in urban areas, people will go stark raving nuts & food, ammo, meds will eventually be stolen or confiscated by our government “betters” even over our (defending-to-the-end) dead bodies.
I, too, have read that you can keep canned foods indefinitely as long as they are not dented, rusted, or swollen. The food is still safe and effective!
