You can't eat silver coins. That's the biggest argument against "prepping" with precious metals. I don't disagree. But for those who have their preps in order, gold and silver make sense.
In a strict survival context, silver makes sense as a barter tool. Gold doesn't. When you need food, ammo, clothing, a vehicle part, building materials, etc., who's going to have "change" for a gold piece valued at $1900 or more?
That being said, gold will enable a quicker recovery when it comes to housing, vehicles, conversion to standard currency under stable financial conditions, and other high priced needs.
