Your comment about children recalling lean meals as comfort food struck a memory with me. My dad worked in the shoe shop (factory) here in Maine when I was a child. At times he would be laid off and my mother would serve the four of us saltine crackers in bowls of milk for a super cheap meal. We loved it. I never knew we were having hard times.
When ppl are struggling how can they afford to buy a book ???
